bypassing heater core on an 80 Q

Will I have any problems if I bypass the heater core on my 80 Q ?

My car has the standard (dials) and not the automatic (digital) climate control.

I seem to have a problem with the temperature control flap sometimes not fully closing and allowing heat in  -- primarily through the side vents.

It just seems to me that bypassing the heater core would be easier than taking the dash apart to try to fix the flap issue.
