Shifter Issue

Hi All,
I just returned from a 900 + mile round trip from Attleboro, MA to
Washington DC. My 90 100Q was flawless in 95+ degree weather except for a
rear wheel bearing thats starting to go, the valet at the Radison DC somehow
drained the battery and I broke something in the shifter. I was leaving a
toll both and teaching a 2001 Civic SI a lesson about big old Audi's ;) When
I shifted from third to fourth I felt and heard something break in the
shifter. I shifted into fifth with some resistance but I was glad that I
could at least get into gear. Since then I gained about three inches of
travel forward in 1st, 3rd and 5th and three inches aft in 2nd, 4th and
reverse. I took off the shift boot, the ball socket is fine but, the piece
its mounted to moves like it's not connected to anything anymore. Does
anyone have any BTDT on this type issue? My once tight shifter feels like a
ford f150's :(
Thanks in advance,
Ray
