Not that I am proud of it but I have BTDT on one of my cars.
I am expecting for a new part to outlast the car so there was no reason not
to do it.
Later on you can still take the strut to a machine shop which can remove the
weld and drill/tap the holes for a new one.
I just did not have a mchine shop to go to at that time.
