I agree, however when making suggestions on driving to
unknowns (i.e. not actually watching what the driver is
doing) one must er on the safe side. Due to the original
poster seeming to cause all of the types of cars he's
driving to go into understeer, he's entering turns too fast.
Easy situation to cause a fully locked Q to lock all 4 and
run off the road or into someone, especially in a panic.
Also, lister doesn't mention snows, all the more reason
for cautious advice.

As a note, on an unexpected snow day late in spring
once while driving my 4KQ on Dunlop D60-A2's (snows
off already) I managed to spin the 4KQ when entering
a corner at what would've been normal snow tire speeds.
Although I could have tried power sliding to correct the
spin, the road was narrow and there were parked cars around,
so I adopted "when in a spin, both feet in". Not sure if the
lesser experienced would have done that.
