How OLD are the tires, and how much tread is left. If the tires have less
than 1/2 original tread, then the tires are the culprit, and if the tires
are much more than three years old, they should be replaced.
Quattro does not like the combination of snowy or very wet surfaces and
mostly worn or old tires. Old rubber gets harder and harder, and without
full tread width, the differentials get confused easily. I have had the
problem before in heavy wet slush. The car wanted to track all sorts of
ways at once when changing lanes. 24000 miles on the tires at the time.
By the way, I have heard rumors (well documented "rumors") that the All Road
is a lovely car, but that it eats tires. I am also told that regular
services at the Audi dealer are VERY expensive. According to my source,
10-12000 miles on a set of tires is about it.
