The rear differential lock on my ‘88 80q works perfect, push the button it
engages, push again and it disengages, drive over 15mph or so and it
disengages.......that's great. The problem is that sometimes (maybe one time
out of twenty) when starting the car up the differential lock automatically
engages. If it is dark, no problem, you see the antilock brake warning on the
dash and you push the button and drive off. But if it is bright outside and
you don't notice the warning (or the wife is driving the car), you back out
of the parking place and everything gets wrapped up. If you have a motor mind
you can retrace your path and unlock it...but let's just say that it is a PIA
when it happens. Now the problem is to try to analyze whether it is the
switch or the unit or what. This summer I disconnected the wiring leads into
the unit (under the rear seat) to solve the problem. Now that is winter I
must fix the problem. I have reconnected the unit and disconnected the switch
to see what happens...but in the mean time has anybody had this happen and
been able to pinpoint the problem area.

Thanks, Jim
