[audi20v] Coolant leak?

It is rare for the 5cyl engine to demonstrate a head gasket leak, and a
more probable cause is a water pump that is leaking when you drive the car.
The leaked coolant then runs back along the engine and gets dispersed into
the air by the hot engine. Anyhow, it never ends up in a puddle because the
car is moving when it is leaking.
I had the same thing happen in the fall, and I eventually demonstrated the
leak by taking off the hose between the coolant reservoir and the radiator,
at the connection with the reservoir. I put a funnel in the loose end of
the disconnected hose, and I poured coolant into the funnel. It ran into
the radiator and back-filled the water pump, and the pump leaked
considerable visible coolant and I could watch it run down the front of the
engine and onto the ground. The water pump is hidden up in there by the
devices on the front of the engine, so you can't really see the pump, but
the coolant runs down from the correct location, mostly on the passenger
side front of the engine.
When did you change the water pump? If that is the original, and it didn't
get changed at timing belt replacement, then it is a likely candidate.
