Away from home and losing power

Thanks for all the replies. I'm in Racine, south of Milwaukee. NAPA can
get the knock sensor, perhaps by Thursday AM, for $72. It's $47 at
Eurowebparts but I don't know how soon I could get it shipped here. It
may also be the wiring harness, which looks somewhat strained.

The check engine light would blink once every so often before, but it
never stayed on. The gas might be an issue, but I filled it up and drove
to Chicago and partway back before getting the constant 'check engine'
light, maybe 120 miles of driving on this tank before seeing the problem
and another 100 since it started happening. The temperature seems OK, the
cooling fan runs sometimes when idling but not while moving. The engine
doesn't seem hellishly hot and doesn't seem to steam or blow coolant after
shutdown. The heater air temp hasn't gotten any warmer. Coolant level is
good. With the cold, moist air here it's hard to imagine I'm getting
spark knock.

I'm tempted to remove the harness connector where the knock sensor joins
the harness ans splice it together. The wiring makes a sharp bend, is
under strain and looks worn there. First I might just try to releive the
strain and maybe test for continuity though.
