'85 5Ks steering rack

IME x 5, squeeze the right (passenger for those in
North America) side boot.  Milk it like an udder.  If
there's fluid in there, it's shot.  Why you don't see
it on your driveway is that much of it gets onto the
exhaust and burns off and the rest is on the bottom of
your floorpan maybe back to the gastank, depending on
the severity of your leak.
