The Manual is correct the alternator should be a dead
short to the battery but looks like the connector
passes through the starter wiring block. D+ looks like
it is for the alternator warning light. I would check
by the starter for a loose or coroded connection then
you can determine if it is the cable or connection.
The alternator is showing 18 volts because it is not
seeing any load which is bad for the alternator. That
is probably what cooked the other alternator.
