84 4KSQ/88 5KSQ Fuel Pump Interchange

Hi George;

The fuel pump on the '88 5ktq is located inside the fuel tank. Access is
through the trunk using a port in the top of the tank which also contains
the level sender unit. Make sure the tank is almost empty before proceeding
unless you really enjoy working up to your elbows in gasoline. Also be aware
the fumes in the trunk can get very strong, so have someone handy to pull
you out if you pass out. You can also use good ventilation, but it's nowhere
near as dramatic as passing out. Non-sparking tools are a really good idea,
and hot 50w trouble lights are a definite no-no.
Sorry, I don't know if the '84 pump will fit. The 5k pumps aren't really
that durable, so you might as well put in a new one if you are going to the
trouble.
