The term "bomb" in Audi usage is in reference to the hydraulic pressure
accumulator, which is a relatively compact spherical container painted
black plumbed between the hydraulic pump and the brake booster. Its
purpose is to store hydraulic pressure so that the brake booster has a
supply of pressure to apply to the master cylinder in the absence of engine
operation. It's supposed to help you stop your car if the engine quits
turning while you're still in motion. Because of its shape and color, and
because it is pressurized, it's been described as a "bomb".
