Audi oil pan clearance problems

I recently purchased a rebuilt motor through GEX which was supposed to
fit an Audi. Turns out the engine was for a Rabbit and the oil pan
won't clear the subframe. I realize that VW's use a transverse mount
while Audi's use a longitudinal mount. My question is- can I just
purchase a new pan & pump assembly and fit it to the engine, or is the
oil pickup for the Audi located in the front and the oil pickup for the
Volkswagen
located in the rear? All of the bolt on accessories mounted to the
rebuilt engine (intake & exhaust manifolds, oil pump stand, air
conditioning bracket, motor mount stands, etc.) with no problems
whatsoever, and therefore I am hopeful that the only thing that I need
to do is switch the pan and pump to make the engine fit. Does anyone
have any suggestions or recommendations?
Thanks for the help!
