Actually, it's called "audifans" these days, so don't worry about it...

1. just how much did the dealer want?  I'm curious...

2. your engine appears in a bunch of other cars - there are 100's, I
believe, with the same intake manifold setup and thus the same cruise
rod.  Also, all the 88-92 80's and 90's with 10 valve five cylinder
engines will be potential sources of a used part.  Of course it does not
help that this was Audis weakest sales era - but those cars are turning
up in junkyards with increasing frequency these days.

Try calling Chris Semple at force five (info in parts supplier list on
audifans.com), he seems to have a steady turnover of them.

Also, anyone who converted an 80Q or 90Q to a turbo engine might have
removed one along the way.
