actually the question was "could tires have something to do with it?" at
least that's what I thought I skimmed back when it started...

and of course, yes, tread pattern, width, and inflation pressure can all
affect economy.  as will using a different rolling radius - but only
*calculated* economy, the real number could still be the same.  ie,
"real miles" travelled divided by fuel used.
