Importing Audi from Canada

Kent,
True, it may be that the S4 is Canadian - but the question may be how did it
come to the US?
There are many weird rules governing the trans-border movement of cars in to
and out of the US. Some of them could have been imposed as a result of NA
auto-pact import quotas (not that the movement of 1 German-made sports sedan
from Canada to the US is going to change the sales of Dorf Wyndtars or
anything)
There are ways to "bend" the rules - witness the Merc/Swatch Smart that is
touring the US (www.smartontheroad.com) - the Smart has not even been
approved by the US vehicle safety authorities and, yet, there's one driving
around the US (it got in under the loophole of being the personal car of a
person who is in the US on business).
In my experience, yes, it may be possible to bring a S4 or S6 from Canada to
the US, but don't count on knowing all the rules and regulations and getting
a smooth ride at the border. If a decision is made to stop a person at the
border (for whatever reason) - it'll be backed up by supervisors until the
proverbial cows come home - and sitting at the border contemplating taking a
bus home sucks. If Rich figures out that he can import one (sorry Stephane,
but you know as well as I the "power"of the all-flighty Canuck "Peso"), then
my advice would be to have a shipping company deal with the trans-border
hassle, and just pick up the car when it arrives in the US.
My 2c - two American pennies I got yesterday when I got my Tim Horton's fix.
Cheers!
