Mark-
Very good points. One thing I want to mention that really annoys me is
that
it sounds like there is a trend toward elimination of the ABS vibration
in the
brake pedal to give one tactile feedback of ABS operation. The article
in which
I read this mentioned that people tend to back off the pedal when they
feel
the ABS actuate.
I don't understand this, but I find it valuable to know that the ABS is
working-
I know that conditions may be more slippery than I originally thought so
I'll
slow down and be more careful. Without any tactile feedback, it's hard
to gain
this kind of information- a light on the dash doesn't do it for me.
Regardless, I thought that's why Mercedes pioneered Brake Assist-
application of
maximum braking force when the car thinks you're trying to brake hard. I
don't
know how good the actual implementation is but it sounds like a very
good idea.
As Mark said, the ABS system in an A4 is far more advanced than the one
in my 200.
