Javad,
I wasn't necessarily referring to the engine's durabilility. I've abused
the stock '85 4kq motor, winding to the redline, etc, trying to kill it for
want of an excuse to install the NG - it just won't happen, unless I drain
the oil out and drive it. I was more referrring to the durability of the
turbo components, especially if acquired used, cost to install, and amount
of work. So..
OK - what is the cost and where to obtain the components? What is actually
involved in doing a simple setup like this?
I assume one would "snag" the components off a wrecked pre-water-cooled
5000 Turbo - manifold, wastegate, turbo, and then fabricate the oil feeds -
where to take off? I would guess you don't even need an intercooler.
Not that I would do this at this point, but maybe in the future. I think
my NG setup should work well for what it is intended - too much work to
turn back now. I could have just dropped the motor in, but with the
massaged motor and Stebro, I expect at least 40 HP gain over stock rather
than a 20 HP gain and lots of low end torque, and better gas mileage to
boot.

http://www.homestead.com/ben_swann/myaudi.html Project GTQ and others
being worked in parallel on a pragmatic basis and a budget of
$120/month(this doesn't include the registration and insurance). This is
the challange from my wife that I spend too much $$$ (and time) on these
cars. Yes, patience is definately a requirement, and I started with 2 cars
3 years ago just before Francesca was born. So far it is working, but I'll
accept donations to the GTQ fund;-).
'85 4000CS quattro - Project GTQ purchased in 1983.
'87 5000CSTq Avant pearl - Purchased Spring of 1999 as the baby trans-sport
anti-SUV.
'87 5kcstqw Charcoal - for sale due to personal economic downturn.
'86 Coupe Auto - will be for sale after some fixin'
+ a couple of parts cars.
