Wow! It really seems I got allot of feathers ruffled with my $90 Pep-boys
pinstripe offer.

Well, I hope it is now perfectly clear to all of you - especially you
Steve - that my original post - albeit perhaps a bit sarcastic - really was
merely a reflection of what everyone else has stated - just not as
eloquently (or politely). Sorry about the tone in that first one.

No, my intentions were good though. When I first arrived in the US (1989), I
had a job selling VW and Porsche on Long Island, NY, at GC Volkswagen in New
Hyde Park. I vividly remember the sticker price of the dealer installed
pinstripe: $350.00. I *also* vividly remember watching to senior salespeople
installing one of these pinstripes on a slow saturday morning, using all of
their combined brain-power and aethstetic sense in determining the exact
location in which to affix the $5 stripe to acheive the absolute best looks
on the car.

My $ 90 offer I guess was an echo of my disgust for the dealers practice of
ripping off their customers. Not just GC VW. All dealers! As I am sure you
all can imagine - *My* V8 has *no* badges, and *no* pinstripes. Now... I
*am* considering the front grille badge treratment like on Bruce's V8:

I think that's still discreet, it looks sharp, and it's custom! (The
"Quattro" doesn't come stock along with the "V8"). Naer shall you see
anything on my rear deck but the "OOOO" in the center. A "Q" list sticker
and a "DK" nationality sticker in the rear window perhaps, but that's it!

Well, to each his own, but I do think that the list has officially (in the
number of responses) decided that you are not allowed to pinstripe your own
car. After all, our freedom is limited to what others believe in this great
nation (kidding of course!!!!).

I guess $100 for a hand-painted pinstripe isn't so bad.
