Lithium vs moly grease

What's the difference between moly and lithium grease? I see on the Mobil 1
website "...lithium complex soap thickener. The thickener system provides a
high dropping point,...". On the Mr Moly website, it's apparent that moly
is an anti-friction component, and they use a clay-based grease. Why, then,
are greases categorized as moly or lithium? It seems they are two
independant characteristics. Is the lithium grease just thickened more than
moly grease? I'd think moly in lithium-thickened grease should be great.
Is moly grease (without lithium) too thin to use where lithium grease is
specified? Or does lithium grease have characteristics unsuitable for
applications where moly grease is specified? Do I really need to buy
another grease gun?
