Scott et al.,
In order to alleviate underhood temps, would you suggest popping open
the hood
to facilitate cool-down?

I have done this on our A4 after a hard run because the manifold and
turbo get
cherry red and it seems to help. But those cars don't have an afterrun
pump or
a cooling fan circuit after shutoff. If opening the hood disturbs proper
airflow
in the engine compartment, then this practice is self-defeating- kind of
like
popping open the cover of a PC these days- they run cooler with the case
closed
(assuming the case is properly designed) rather than with the case open.
