Engine mount rebuild...with hockey pucks!?!

Dave, on a VW the "puck" mount would likely work, but due to the vastly
different design of the Audi mount, I'd say if you could get the mount on the
car it would fail miserably and require extensive re-engineering to just keep
it on the road. The VW mount is basically a hunk of rubber with a hole in
it, but the Audi mount is much different and more complex.

The best mod I have come to so far with the factory mounts is to fill in the
void around the stud (embedded in the rubber) with epoxy putty. This simple
mod makes a suprisingly big difference in response but not vibration and
harshness. You may notice a small amount of vibration at idle, for example,
but its minor at worst. Also, ensure you bond the epoxy to the metal washer
to keep the epoxy in one piece.

Alright, car is a 1989 90quattro. Engine mounts need replacing...they're
still
okay for daily driving..but we rally in the first weekend of march (TSD-
Drivex). On bigger hits the engine likes to move up and down quite a bit.

I friend of mine who rallies a golf suggested I take the engine mounts
off...remove the hydraulic part and replace with hockey pucks (drilled out in
the centre to accept the bolt). I was originally going to just go with new
 stock ones, but...

I own an audi. Something else went wrong...and now I have a good car again,
with weak mounts and no $$.

The question is this: Is it possible? I haven't taken off the mount fully
yet, but it seems to me, from what I've undone, that the cast aluminum and
the
hydraulic piece are all one unit. F/A suggests this is the case as well.

Anyone know for sure? Am I going to have to do a serious hack job for
this...or will it be fairly easy to seperate the hydro-mount from teh cast
 aluminum housing??
