I have been chasing a problem for a long time on my 87 5000 turbo quattro that I
have owned for over 3 years. It intermittently has a very high idle (up to 3000
rpm), along with sluggish performance and low boost. It took me a long time to
finally determine the root cause. I went through the low boost and idle problem
checklists on the Digest and SJM's website again and again, never really solving
the problem many parts were changed including the WOT/idle switch and multi-
function temp sensor. It turns out that my answer was in an old archived
message from Ben Swann and a few other people on the quattro list.

The contact for the middle wire in the WOT switch connector was intermittent. I
recrimped and soldered all of these wires into the connector and the problem is
finally solved. I am posting this to the list for the next person that has this
intermittent problem.
