v8 - how to access battery levels

I had heard that there is a way to see what the battery level is through the
climate control system on a v8.  has anyone heard of this and tell me why
they would have removed the battery gauge entirely? i know it was
disconcerting on my 200 when the 2nd stage fan went off and the battery
levels dropped a ton.  - maybe a reason
