Yes, that IC core is pretty much useless, its way too small. Its volume
alone is only 108 cubic inches, the stock 5kt IC is more like 350. Also, if
it flows longitudinally, along the 18" legth of the core, definitely throw it
out as it would be very restrictinve and unefficient. I'd look on ebay to
see what bigger cores are available, the few you mentioned are good choices.

I feel that it may be too small. With the point of view that the intercooler
presents free bennifits, I may do well to buy one of those NPR coolers or one
of the starion coolers.(they are big and cheap)
Is my intercooler core too small to worry about building? I plan to use
15-17psi if the k24 can provide it efficiently. does anyone have some real
good and reasonable suggestions?
