4kq top speed & gears

Ok, so for those of us planning our turbo conversion well in advance (ok,
more of a dream at this point), I find myself in a quandary. While the
higher gearing of the 4k trans would make the car squirt quite nicely from
point to point, it's rather busy on the freeways, turning mid-3000 rpm's at
typical speeds, or more. So, put in the higher-geared 5k trans, but does it
fit? Will the shaft to the rear diff bolt right up? If it doesn't fit, what
are other options for lowering the freeway revs? Is this one of those "don't
worry about it" things that relies on the durability of these motors?
Still a newbie at this sort of thing..

Funny that you even mention that, My 84' 4KQ will not even redline. My car
seems to max out @ 5000 rpm. Don't get me wrong she has torque but by no
means will it reach close to its' redline marking. I advanced the timing by
12 degrees and sh idles @ 1100 rpm. Steer me in the right direction. She'll
cruise but to me she's a city car or possible sprint project. Nowhere close
to a autobahn hauler.
