Electrical Problems - Short on start attempt

Thanks all for your help!
It turned out to be the connection at the battery.
Late last night we tried another start (with the lights off), and noticed a
considerable arc at the + terminal.
I pulled all apart, got some new connectors this morning and now all is
working well.

Q. I soldered a proper sized terminal lug to the AWG4 wire (the one going to
the starter) and fastened that to a side terminal adapter. Is this
acceptable practice? Do all battery type connections have to be mechanical?
