If this is the same mechanism as the 5k sunroof, then you've got broken
brackets. There are two of these, about 12" x 1" x 1/4" screwed to the
roof. The actuators slide in channels cut in these brackets. One ofthe
channels has an obvious weak spot, and one or both of them are broken at
that spot. This creates enough friction that the motor can't (or won't)
move the sunroof.

I had the same symptoms, lubed it up real good with lithium,
and it worked just fine until one of the broken brackets caught in the
roof while trying to close, and the sunroof was jammed open.. oops.

Got new roof brackets from force-5 auto and it's been great ever since.

(Fortunately for me, Chris acted very fast, so I only needed the tarp on
the roof for acouple of days...)
