Under the unfortunate circumstances of my wife's 1994 ovloV 850 turbo
wagon suddenly loosing compression yesterday in the #2 cylinder (the
fifth such incident, different cylinders each time, in the past 88k
miles--all but this time on the previous owner) we were faced with the
need to get a backup car and fast.
A good friend is moving away to Hawaii and needed to loose 1 or 2 of his
4 quattros. Knowing this my wife suggested we call him and get her some
wheels to drive while we go through the painful process of figuring out
what to do with the ovloV (waiting on the dealership Service Manager to
get in touch with zone rep and get back to us at this point).
So, last night we added another quattro to the family, a silver with
gray cloth 1986 4000 quattro with 144k miles, fresh H&R springs, strut
mounts, Bilstien Sport shocks, nice tires, new clutch, looks decent and
runs great. (Not bad for $1500) To date my eighth Audi and fourth 4000
quattro. Now my 5kcstq has a non-ovloV stable mate! Even the thrill of a
new to us quattro didn't take the sting off the ovloV failure, but at
least salved it somewhat and I'm thankful the timing was right.
Wolff, if you're lurking here, looks like I'll need to borrow timing
belt tools again sometime soon since we do not know when the last time
was this 4kq had one done.
