fuel pressure accumulator: required?

I never had the accumulator fail on my Audi, but it happened once to an old
fuel-injected Rabbit I had. On that, which was CIS too, it kept fuel
pressure up in the system while the car was shut off. Without it, you get
really hard starts because the fuel pump has to repressurize the whole
system (took 5-6 seconds on the Rabbit). Didn't affect operation otherwise,
though.
