proportional valve: how important to have working one?

I believe the rear brake proportioning valve is on all the Type 44
cars. It's in the line from the ABS box. It's where the line divides to
go to each rear wheel (in other words, there's one brake line from the
front of the car to the valve and two from the valve, one to each rear
wheel). It is mounted in front of the driver side rear wheel and attached
to the suspension with a spring-loaded lever that reacts to the suspension
being compressed, I believe. It's item #6 in this
