On an additional note:

For the '85 and greater speedos where the odometer quits: Rip out the O2
gear (on the hundreds digit.) This was causing my problem with the little
worm gear backing out (which I tried fixing with a "stop" epoxied onto the
speedo case, then the metal gear on the other end started slipping!) I
ripped out the O2 gear (on my car and my mom's 4ks) and the odometer's been
working ever since. About 4000 miles so far on mine since I fixed it.

I've lubed mine with "whatever" I had handy - but never heard a peep
from them. If yours is really rough, I'd pull it out and make sure it
spins smoothly.

I lost a couple of lower cables to a gummed up OXS timer box which

Every 30k it tries to get you to pay someone to press it's little white
button.

here's a bunch of words about them, and a photo of the one I took out of
my coupe:

I got rid of it, and, strangely enough, managed to find a one piece
speedo cable that fit the threaded speedo (later one piece cables
usually have a twist lock type connection at the speedo).
