you need to remove the screw. this connects the rear cover to the input
shaft. you cannot remove the rear cover without that coming off 1st.

I have a 016 transmission from a '86 5KTQ with a broken 2 - 4 gear
synchronizer ring. I need to separate the rear case from the center section
in order to remove the main shaft. I can't separate them. The Bentley does
not cover this step. It only shows the front wheel drive configuration. I
removed the plug with the plastic pointed piece at the rear of the main
shaft. The ETKA shows a "screw" and concave washer behind this. I see a
twelve point that I thought may be the "screw". It will not remove and I
believe it is the shaft not the "screw".
How does this come apart? I have not tried to force things. Moving the shift
rods makes it move fore and aft slightly. Do I need to remove the shift
locks?
Thanks for any tips.
Tim Leonard
