I'd pull the codes from the 87 car.  If it has a Type 1 WoT switch,
I'd also replace it.

There were quite a few undocumented changes around this time.  The
inlet manifold (034 133 201H) changed subtly - it acquired a raised
skirt around the injector area and a drain hole complete with a pipe
that is presumably designed to lead any leaked fuel down to safety
under the car.  Pointless, because the top of the pipe blocks up with
crud after a couple of hundred miles.

This change was made to the MB engine at around chassis 85-J-900644,
though about fifty later cars were fitted with earlier engines.  With
the MB, the change is significant because it also marks the timing
belt change and the change of the wastegate frequency valve boost
input from unthrottled to throttled air.
