Scott,
The FG weight is almost the same as the lightest steel one.
There have been two versions of the Steel lid that I have had.
The very early once '81-'82 are very heavy (was on my '82 parts car), the
'83-'85 are a lot lighter (my '83).
I have not checked the P/N's however just from standing them side by side
you can see structural differences.
I bet you can't even buy the really early version.
I should have take some pics for future reference, never thought this
subject would get this big.
The only reason I would use FG is for rust reasons, save a lbs or so and of
course to be cool ;o)
The FG lids started showing up on Coupes mid '85, I have seen 5 already (3
in junk yards, I bought 2 of them).
I have seen only 2 '87.5 Coupes with body color lids in Toronto area.
Hope this helps.
I'll cc. the list as this might be usefull to someone there as well.
Cheers

Have you weighed these? Done the swap? Any advantage you can see one over
the other. My understanding is that the FG trunks are 87 coupe only. True?
Bolt on to all urq's (specifically looking at my 83)? Still can't believe
you haven't sold the 83 yet.

Actually it's very easy to spot them.
You don't even need a magnet.
The fibre lids have a raised section where the spoiler mounts.
The steel lids are flat all across.
Makes it very easy to spot the fibre lids.
Hope this helps in future searches.
Cheers
