I have the same opinion. The original quality of the
steel used is substandard. Period. I've owned 2 Jap.
cars (and still have 1, a 76 Datsun 280Z w/ 76k
miles). Fasteners break for no reason at all. I've
seen what they buy for "steel". They have NO iron
resources, so everything must be imported, and the
percentage of "recycled" steel and iron is very high.
Also they bargain for the lowest price and often take
very questionable recycleables for their use. The
"hole big enough to stick your head through" trait
really soured me on Jap. cars. Period. Mechanicals
can constantly be replaced. I.E. Dorf pickup
approaching 500k miles and 2 Audis approaching 200k
miles.
