I repeatedly hounded listers for input on suspensions, so I feel obligated
to reply in turn:
I went with Eibach Prokit Springs and Bilstein Sport struts on my CQ. I'd
ridden in a CQ with Koni Yellows and H&Rs for comparison, and the H&R/Koni
setup seemed similar, but lower and a little stiffer.
I don't want to touch off a Suspension geometry debate, so take all of this
as subjective ramblings only:
I like the Eibach/Bilstien combo on my car, but I think the Bilstien Sports
are a bit stiff. I get a fairly flat taught ride, much improved dive and
squat, a little bumpy on choppy stuff, and really bumpy on crap roads, but
tolerable. Roll reduction in my opinion is just okay. The combo is good
for spirited round-town etc., but they're just so-so on the track. Sports
are recommended for shorter spring applications (Bilstein doesn't recommend
HDs for shorter springs). But unfortunately, in heavy sweeping turns, the
stiff dampening effect of the Bilsteins doesn't make it roll any less (they
just extend and retract and slower - helping with transition, but not with
overall degree of roll) so I still get significant roll. Stiffer springs or
anti-sway bars are the only route to address roll specifically.
