Having a nut wind a stud out during repair is trivial compared with
having a nut wind itself off a stud while you're diriving down a
highway. This seems to be a very selfish preference on your
mechanic's part.

Well, it seems to have worked roughly 5 x 4.1 million times for Audi.
Actually - this is a little secret you can pass on to your mechanic
friend - they're _plated_ to prevent corrosion. Try suggesting that
he cuts one in half to see just how far in the 'copper content' goes.

Huh? He gets 35 NM with his FINGERS? Most of us find 12mm quite
adequate - but then we use WRENCHES.
