Vs The Log. 10% is not a small improvement!
Indeed not - but the environment is totally constrained. Gas exiting
has to pass either through the turbo or the wastegate, both of which
spend their idle moments making life difficult for flowing gas. I
suspect the EM could flow 300% better and it would make damn all
difference.
> With some port-matching and polishing there is even
more to be had. Wish I got flow numbers when I did mine....
I5 ports are deliberately unmatched to create annular vortices in the
gas leaving the head. Polishing is less controversial, though one of
the guys who built the rally-winning cars for Audi UK tells me they
polished the inlets but left the exhausts alone on factory
instructions.

Yup - got one on the Bus - MC055117. Replaced a Dialynx fitted by
Richard Eaton that tore out #1 lower stud. When I bought the Bus from
him at Castle Combe in 1999, I got a GBP500 discount because of the
PoS. I have the paperwork for his fitting, and the receipts for the
2-part I replaced it with, and those for the stepped stud I had fitted
by Rugby Motor Engineering because of the damage to #1 lower.
Richard had the Dialynx manifold fitted by AUTOTECHNICS of Brickfield
Business Park, Gillingham, on 9 January 1998. AT that time, the
invoice records the mileage as 84667. I bought the car at recorded
91,000 with the manifold blowing so badly that people fifty yards away
were turning round to look.
Richard and I were quite happy that we had a handshake deal. His wife
Clare wasn't so happy, and asked me to sign (caps in original):
THIS IS ALSO TO CONFIRM THAT PHIL PAYNE HAS PURCHASED THE
AUDI AS SEEN; TRIED AND TESTED AND THAT NO WARRANTIES
WHATEVER HAVE BEEN IMPLIED OR GIVEN BY CLARE EATON.
Well, it was loud. But not THAT loud. Car is now SJM-chipped at 1.85
bar. Recorded mileage is 160,000 - actual is at least 100,000 more.
> If you run the Dialynx EM please respond directly.
Had one on MB001293 (ur-quattro, 85-J-900637). It warped like a wet
board, pulling three studs out. So I took it back to Dialynx in
person. Aelred himself refaced it - I refitted it and it warped
again, writing off the head. I can post scanned images of the
paperwork (including the invoice for the new head) if required.
Now running an Audi one-piece. No support brackets. 55,000 miles -
no problems. Car is bone stock.
