86 4000q with no headlights

Are you running high wattage (i.e greater than 60W, either beam) 9004
bulbs? If so, this is par for the course with the lousy connectors that
Audi has blessed us with 9004 lights. Replace the connectors, and stick
with stock wattage bulbs. Or try the 9007 conversion while the sockets
are out anyway. Not sure if it helps the 4K Aero lights, but it did help
the type 44 Turbo lights (they are so pathetic anyway that it couldn't
help but help!). Buy the NAPA or Sylvania Xenon (as opposed to halogen)
charged bulbs (PULEEZE not blue tint!) which are more efficient at
producing light than halogen bulbs, so that a 45-50W (or whatever they
are) bulb puts out as much or more light than the stock halogen 55-60W
bulbs. The better lighting pattern (not Euro grade) makes up for the
higher wattage bulbs that really don't help out 9004 lamps anyway. The
difference with 9007 bulbs is that their filaments run longitudinal
(north-south) rather than laterally (east-west). It seems that at least
on the turbo lamps, more of the filament is closer to the lamp's focal
point. What dim-bulbs, those Audi light designers (at least DOT)!
