warm start / no spark

Greetings,
Max ('87 5KTQ) has been down for the better part of two weeks, with a few
hours per weekend devoted to trouble shooting, breaking down, getting a ride
home, and miraculously starting several hours/a day later..
What seemed to be a Hall sensor problem did not respond to identical
distributor replacement.
I've seen numerous references in the archives to an intermittant "Hall
sensor like" condition exacerbated by cold weather.
More precisely, it starts when cold, no problem, but after coming up to
temperature and being shut down for a short time (1/2 hour) spark is lost
until the car gets back down to ambient.. 30 degrees (F) or thereabouts.
I plan on going through the rest of the tests this weekend, per the Bently,
i.e.Timing and RPM sensors, wiring, etc, etc.
Just wanting to take a poll as to what is the most frequent cause of the
intermittant spark loss condition.
Many thanks in advance,
Mark Woodland
