82 coupe heat/idle problem

but the "system" is not supposed to hold pressure... not the engine side
of things, anyway.  (I assume you did this with the engine off) The
brake boost and the AC recirculation flap supply are both on the "other
side" of one way valves, they do hold pressure.  Try checking your idle
screw on the throttle body (and pull the big black accordian hose and
check to see how clean the throttle butterflies are).  If no idle air is
entering in this way, that would make the same symptoms you are seeing -
and maybe even "make the system hold pressure," I suppose.

Also, carefully compare your vacuum hose routing to the sticker under
your hood, maybe something got crosses somewhere?
