Wastegate systems on 20vt engines should not, and do not need to be,
modified in any way, shape, or form. If you're not getting proper
boost levels, there's -some other problem-. If you want more boost,
get a chip from MTM, Hoppen, or Intended Acceleration.
It is all fun and games until you get a load of 87 octane, or on hot
day in traffic with a heatsoaked IC you nail it. By messing with the
wastegate, you're basically defeating half a dozen sensors and about
half the function of the ECU(boost control.) Which is louder? The
sound of your engine blowing, or the money draining out of your
wallet? Which is more expensive? A $5 spring and a $4000 motor, or
a $500 ECU mod? Let's not forget that the ECU mod will develop
better power anyway; the timing, boost, and fuel maps will actually
be correct.
