I am interested, but have no crystal ball regarding specific parts for MY
car. It might be useful to identify some very expensive parts that I have
already replaced, and might need to replace again, or haven't replaced
because they were too expensive and I can get along without them. I'm sure
these parts are eventually required by almost every owner, and I can try to
list a few:
Front windshield: Takes a lot of flying debris, gets starred, bulls-eyed or
cracked or sand blasted. List about $750, actual wholesale cost about $300.
Hydraulic accumulators.
Power steering pumps and hoses.
Outer CV joints which contain the cog wheels that the ABS sensors look at.
These cogs corrode away and the entire ABS system stops working and must be
disabled. If price is right, might be good idea to replace all 4 whole
drive axle units that have CV joints on both ends.
Quattro center drive shafts, complete. Dealer only sells complete unit.
Center support bearing fails, and sometimes the universal joint. We do have
jury rigs costing most people about $200 to get in place, including labor.
Radiators.
Fuel pumps.
Turbos and down-pipe.
Aux coolant pump for turbo.
Oil coolers with connectors.
Multi-function electrical switches that fit on the steering wheel.
Rear transverse control assemblies, R & L.
All kinds of molded rubber hoses, and metal fuel lines and brake lines.
Stainless steel exhaust components like pipes and resonators and mufflers,
and the hanger that supports exhaust system through attachment on manual
transmission.
Brake calipers and emergency brake cables. The rears all eventually hang up
and require rebuilts or new. Add rotors to this list.
