SF Gate: Freak fire traps man inside Audi/Battery failure a possible cause

The locks on my 80 used to behave badly when the battery was
disconnected and then reconnected. When reconnected the locks would also
lock on their own. I found this out the hard way when my key were in the
ignition while fitting the eurolights. The 90q doesn't seem to have this
angry function.
Another odd thing was very years I was just locking the car and not
checking the doors. One day I decided to grab all the handles and found the
passenger's rear door was never locking. The button went down, but no
locking. I found the door handle cable was installed improperly causing it
to be a little too stretched out, like someone gently holding the handle
open all the time. It was enough to mess up the lock from going all the way
down, but not enough to fudge the handle operation at all.
Cheers,
