SF Gate: Freak fire traps man inside Audi/Battery failure a p ossible cause

Just heard on the radio that AoA is looking into this incident, but can't
inspect the car because its impounded by the police.  The spokesperson said
that "if indeed the car is a 1985 Audi 5000, then its impossible for the
locks not to open".  She went on to further state that there's a safety
mechanism that will open all 4 doors if you ... (sorry didn't catch that
part).  But AFAIK, no such mechanism is built into the locks on my T44.  I
wonder if the guy had a broken drivers door and passed out from smoke
inhalation before he could get out the passenger side.
