My parents had a GM car with solenoid locks that were the clunkiest,
noisiest, cheap sounding things I've ever encountered. I have always doubted
the wisdom of Audi vacuum locks from the standpoint of the inability of the
tubing to survive longterm. Since my 83 URQ's locks still work (quietly), I
guess maybe it wasn't such a bad idea?
There are advantages to both methods I suppose.
