They drag their feet on a lot of things.  There was a documented transfer
case problem on their DSMs for several years, including two deaths
directly resulting from the failure, but no recall.

Eventually Mitsubishi issued a recall on Eclipses, and 2-3 months later
Chryco caught up with Talons and Lasers.  Even after that, very few
dealers performed the recall correctly. I personally had 3 dealers do it
wrong on my car.

However:  If you *did* get the news involved, and they found it
sufficiently sexy, you could get an uninted-acceleration effect and get
some attention in short order.

Give then fact that this battery fire is almost for sure due to a
maintainance problem, whether you really want to do that may be a
different question.
