> Micheal, this isn't a boxing match, we're just discussing, that's all.
Empirically, there is a reason that Eurobumpers are rated for 2mph, and DOT
bumpers are rated at 5mph.

You're right - it's not a boxing match - I was just having a bit of
amusement with you - Hope that's OK?
I have no idea what the DOT ratings are, but I DO know that DOT ratings are
inferior to the E-soecs - like in headlights - and this from someone who has
had both (I grew up in Denmark). European lighting is *FAR* superior on
autos to the DOT approved lighting.

I just like to see cars in the apparel they were meant to wear, and the
"boxing match" was just an attempt to flush out opposing opinions - or
reasons why not to switch. IMHO the arguements for DOT bumpers were very
insignificant for my purposes. Obviousely the DOT feels there is a need for
their specific regulations, and I believe I know what that reason might be:
In this country, we have millions of unqualified drivers. It cost me nearly
$3,000.00 to obtain my driver's license in Denmark, due to the rigorous
requirements for driver's education - both practical, on a closed course and
in traffic, and the theoretical portion - which allone costs $1,200.00. The
test itself costs $120.00, and that only covers ONE practical (driving)
test, and ONE theoretical test. If you fail either one, it's another $120 -
which then allows you to take 2 additional tests before having to fork out
another $120 for testing.
The driver's ed classes in the instructor's vehicle, equipped with passenger
side brake and clutch, are about $25 / Hr,and a minimum of 10 are required,
PLUS 5 hours on a closed circuit.

Obtaining a driver's licence in this country is a joke, and that's why the
bumpers need the extra absorption!

Trust me - I never again wish to live in Denmark. I'm 100% proud to be
American, but there is room for improvement in certain areas...

Schucks, really? How about an off-list "boxing match"? I do enjoy exchanging
opposing views on things I believe strongly in, as long as it is done in a
civil manner. Hope you have found my responses so far - if not humorous -
then at least civil...?!

Michael.
