Cold start injector on 87 CGT (KV)

When opening the throttle with the engine cold, the cold start injector can
be heard to fire. I know this is a normal function to prevent engine
hesitation.

My question is what controls this function? My 89 MB urq has this function
controlled by the ECU, but the KV does not have an ecu as such. Any answers
gratefully received.
